The emergence of cooperation through leadership

چکیده

We characterize stochastically stable states in noisy asynchronous repeated games. Players repeatedly play a 2 × 2 coordination game with random pairwise matching. The games are noisy because the players may make mistakes when choosing their actions and are asynchronous because only one player can move in each period. We show that if there is a sufficiently patient player, the efficient state can be the unique stochastically stable outcome even if it is risk-dominated. We argue that heterogeneity among the players in terms of their discount factors is important for our results because it enables the most patient player to take the leadership effectively. JEL classification: C72, C73.

Warriors and Peacekeepers: Testing a Biosocial Implicit Leadership Hypothesis of Intergroup Relations Using Masculine and Feminine Faces

This paper examines the impact of facial cues on leadership emergence. Using evolutionary social psychology, we expand upon implicit and contingent theories of leadership and propose that different types of intergroup relations elicit different implicit cognitive leadership prototypes. It is argued that a biologically based hormonal connection between behavior and corresponding facial character...

There is ample empirical evidence of the importance of leadership for successful management of common-pool resources (CPRs), not least in dealing with the effects of various kinds of disturbances. However, it is hard to find a way to fit lea...
